The Harbingers

The recent War of Embers featured the costly victory of humankind over otherworldly entities. Mid-Atla was far from the only region to suffer the wrath of the sorcerous creatures known as the Harbingers — according to the Dustriders, their trail of destruction comes from as far as Meso-Americas. Only the Dustriders and scant few communities survived their wrath.

Despite the immense amounts of research on the matter, information on the Harbingers remains sparse. It is unknown if they were ever human or if they are merely entities that mockingly took the shape of humans. Similarly, their true goal remains a mystery — if they ever had one beyond the destruction of humanity wherever they found it.

However, three things are universally known about them:

1) They are eldritch entities possessed of incredibly destructive sorcery and immensely resilient longevity

2) They are without mercy and empathy, destroying individual and community alike in their murderous path across the continent.

3) There have been four recorded Harbingers and their many deaths have been confirmed by hundreds of witnesses. If they are still alive after their destruction at the Battle of the Broken Bell, they have yet to resurface. Their minions or creations have since been driven away, dispatched with extreme prejudice, or have fallen apart without their creators’ instruction.
