Yom Juja
They are tales told from the fringes of civilization, whispered by those haunted and by those in fear. It appears as a bloodsoaked figure, with many eyes peering from its twisted visage and from beneath long hair. Some claim that they are a death-curse whispered from a pregnant woman’s final breath. Others say that they are themselves the mothers of nightmares and terror, seeking to spawn more of their children on a ravaged landscape. The Templars claim that these are impiety and sin given form to wreak havoc among the faithful.
Its cruel claws take down entire squads with ease, shrugging off gunfire and petty magics even while it hunts. Those who strike at a Yom Juja find themselves beset by maddening terror and even those who are simply in the area are similarly afflicted, downing weakened soldiers and the faint of heart without it even touching a hair on their head.
Worse yet, Yom Juja rarely come alone. In the wake of their rampage, Geists are drawn to an area and begin their own savagery upon the local populace. Junk Geists, Dust Geists, and even Blood and Shadow Geists may appear and add to the carnage.
For all their devilry on the battlefield, they possess two other capabilities that make humanity quake in fear. The first and most potent is its ability to bypass walls, doors, warding runes, and other defenses—it is said to find easy passage where spaces overlap such as from corners or even where a piece of furniture is placed upon a floor. There are only a few signs that herald the arrival of a vicious attack and, even then, these are so rare and so garbled by local hearsay that they are not easily known. The most certain signs are the sudden appearances of pools of dark liquid and/or strands of long dark hair.
The second quality is the Yom Juja’s ability to turn its hunters or attackers against one another, dominating souls with a dark will. Sentinels will open gates, bodyguards will open fire upon their charges, and packmates will fall upon each other. The only saving grace of its domineering will is that it becomes more vulnerable at that time, though it remains a deadly opponent despite this.
